I love this article and think masking is a valuable measure to take during the pandemic. There are some, though, who question the concept that a low inoculum of virus leads to a less severe infection. I don't think there's great data to support this either. Authors in this correspondence with the New England Journal of Medicine noted, "Viral replication is related to dose, but disease severity is not." Sometimes asymptomatic individuals can have higher viral loads than critically ill ones. I like the warm nose improving the immune response theory better as an explanation for how masks might reduce the severity of illness. Thanks for another great article!
